The Tuesdays

Good morning friends,

I come to you this morning with more music for your soul. Remember that music is like medicine and it can absolutely change your mindset, mood, and also calm your body down. This isn't just me talking, this is science. It's proven to reduce your heart rate, lower blood pressure and cortisol. It eases anxiety and improves your mood. Dig into that research if your curious.

My house growing up was always full of music; thanks mum and dad! If I can, I will always have some playing no matter where I am and going to see live music is one of my favourite things to do. Before Covid my summers were packed with as many shows as I could fit. I love it; my heart feels full when I'm at a concert. I could talk all day about the magic of live music, but that’s a post for another time.

With that said you can bet I'll have many posts that derive from songs/lyrics that touch my heart and soul. Being a lover of music and writing, how could I not! Here is round two! Round One is here!

This song is by Jake Scott and is so calming, gently and fiercely important. Here's the chorus:

"It's not just picture perfect dancing in a white dress

It's not just rainy days when nothing stops the fighting

It's not just highs and lows, and champagne toasts

I've come to know that love's not only the best days

Or the worst days

Love is the Tuesdays"

Jake is clearly speaking about a romantic partner and I absolutely agree with him. Your relationship is more than just the big exciting things, or the really tough days that challenge you individually and as a couple. Love is more than the big calendar moments. It's every single day in between. Love is the small pieces of daily life that make up your relationship. It's about the way you greet each other at the door, on the phone, and how you take care of each other throughout the days in between those BIG moments.  Friends, it really is all about the little things that you do for each other.

I want to take this a step further because love isn't just about a partner or spouse. These ideas can be used for your friends, family members, pets and yourself personally.  I challenge you to listen to this song again and when you listen put yourself as the main character or as the focus of your love.

The love you give yourself on those big special occasions is also needed on the Tuesdays. You are more than just the BIG achievements, goals, or even mistakes. You are built up of little things and you deserve that self-love on each of those days in between. You are worthy of those small moments and things that make your day feel light, good and calm. You deserve to feel important and appreciated. We spend a lot of time being hard on ourselves--or at least I do. But love is those small moments you share with yourself that keep your heart light. It’s about making time for the things you love, or making sure you eat properly or get some exercise in. It’s about taking a deep breath when you need to and not sweating the small stuff. Love is also the way you make tea for your partner, call your parents, reach out to your friend, or snuggle your pet close.

Love is the little things in your life that make every day special. These small things, when viewed through this lens, go from ordinary to extraordinary. This can change your life. I challenge you to pay attention to the little things that make your day-to-day special. I promise they are there.

As always, be gentle with yourself,

Katrina
