Gratitude

Good morning friends!

I hope today’s post finds you rested and relaxed. I hope your weekend was wonderful and that you are looking forward to a great week ahead!

A lot of us Canadians have today off and with this comes an opportunity to fill our cup. Soak in the extra hours outside of your usual Monday grind. Carve out time to connect with yourself, others, and the Earth. Be thankful for an extra day to fill with your favourite things, or to get things done.

Recently a very special person in my life gifted me a beautiful book.

It’s called “A Good Day: A Gift of Gratitude” by Brother David Steindl-Rastv. I was moved by the beauty and simplicity with which he shares his advice on Gratefulness.

To truly live is to really open your eyes and see everything in your life. Living each day for the gift that it is and to see each piece of your day as a special connection to you and others. There is magic everywhere and the importance of seeing this magic can change your life. Connecting with your life, really paying attention, allows you to cultivate positivity in each day and in each moment. Your life is full of blessings, big and small. You get to choose how you show up for yourself and for others. Choose to bless others with your presence. Spread light and kindness wherever you go. When you start to see the small things in your own life as the blessings that they are, you are more able to spread those blessings to others. A wave across the street, or a smile to someone at the store. That twinkle in your eye can change someone’s day.

Even when things are going south, or you’re struggling, there is always something good in each day. Look for that spec of light. It could be very small, but look for it. I promise it’s there. It’s the water that flows from the tap, or the cozy sweater you’ve pulled on. Perhaps it’s the way the wind moves through the grass outside. Find the light of these little pieces of each day and you too will feel lighter. For each day cannot always be good, but there is something good in each day. Even the most difficult times come with an important opportunity to learn and grow. Those are the little specs of light and gratitude that make tough times better. You might not see it right away, but growth and strength will come from the tough time, and down the road when you look back you’ll see that there was that spec of light.

You can purchase the book, which has a beautiful and insightful section about seeing the opportunities in your life, or you can listen to it. I highly recommend listening as it’s soothing and accessible from nearly anywhere. I try to listen daily to remind me that there is good everywhere you look and that you CAN find it. Each day is full of blessings, be grateful for them and as Brother David Steindl-Rastv said: "“Let the gratefulness overflow into blessing all around you. Then it really will be a good day.”

In the comments below share something you’re grateful for on this fine Monday morning! I’d love to hear from you!

As always, be gentle with yourself,

Katrina
