Banks to Your River
Good morning everyone!
Gosh it feels good to be back writing positively again. Let me tell you it's been much needed.
Today I want to share a song with you that wrapped me into a hug the first time I heard it. The lyrics struck me and I couldn't help but smile and feel a little lighter.
Here's the line that made me stop in my tracks:
"I wanna hold you close but never hold you back
Just like the banks to the river”
Isn't this some of the best imagery? This intimate yet freeing image of holding someone close to you, loving them, keeping them safe and warm, but allowing them to be free. To be independent, strong, fierce, and ambitious. And support them along the way. Free to be themselves with your love and support beside them. This. Is. Everything. Isn't it?
This is the perspective we should all have for relationships, romantic or otherwise. We should be surrounding ourselves with people who share this supportive, and not hindering, perspective.
This entire song is about that support. To be there when things get rough, to remind the other person of their greatness and light, whilst allowing them to explore, create and be who they are-- to let them learn, make mistakes, and trusting them as they do so.
The song is called "Banks" by NEEDTOBREATHE. Fittingly, like their name, their songs are calming, introspective and inspiring.
You can listen on Youtube here.
Or on Spotify here.
Well, that's all for today; just a quick note to remind you to breathe and to surround yourself with people who allow you to breathe. But also to BE the person who lets others breathe. As much as it's important to find that freeing support for ourselves, it's equally important to be that for others.
So take a deep breath and let it flow. Be the banks to their river.
Be gentle with yourself,
Katrina
