Shifting Seasons
Good morning friends,
Happy first day of Autumn!
Things have been a little chaotic over the last little while and I feel things shifting and changing. When I realized that our Summer season was finishing up and that Autumn was around the corner this unsettled feeling made sense to me. Things are moving and adjusting; it felt purposeful to post today, on the first day of Autumn, instead.
The changing of the seasons is such a tough time for some. While Autumn truly is beautiful and it’s home to the richest of colours, coziest of outfits, and the start of all the deep soulful meals that I adore, it’s also unpredictable in terms of weather. Things start to get dreary and dark and it’s hard to not let it affect your mentality and to pull out of the darkness of it sometimes.
Autumn is the time the Earth prepares for a deep and impactful rest. It’s a great reminder to give yourself a break as well. To tuck in and let yourself rest, regroup, and rejuvenate. Mother Earth does it, so can you. Of course as we’re shifting into this resting period it seems to be the time when things get busier. It’s school time, it’s the lead up to the holiday season, end of the year, work projects, etc. You might be thinking, Katrina, I don’t have time to rest, regroup or rejuvenate. I’m here to say that you do. You need to. It’s a new season and a new opportunity to get in sync with yourself and prioritize what you need to stay happy and healthy. It’s a shift that we need to lean into so we can prepare for the shorter and darker days ahead. Mother Earth uses Autumn to prepare for Winter. We should too.
Regardless of the shifts, or changes we are experiencing we must remind ourselves that it won’t last forever. It is only a piece of the story we are writing, remember? It’s only a piece of your puzzle. As my favourite heroine Anne once said “… The sun will go on rising and setting whether I fail in Geometry or not…”
Regardless of what we do, time inevitably keeps moving. The days carry on and whatever we are facing shift and change too. All we can do is show up, do the best we can, and try again the next day.
With each beep of the alarm clock we can look to the day ahead and be grateful for the opportunity to start fresh. Look forward to breathing joy, love, kindness, patience and empathy into your day. Do this for yourself and you will not only change your day, but you will impact those around you and change their day too. Remember to start your day grateful and to pay attention to the good things throughout the day.
This shift into Autumn worries me as I so often struggle through the change and the winter. It was Autumn when I first started writing this blog, back in 2013; historically, it’s the start of my tougher months. I know I’m not alone in this as the colder weather wraps us in a rough and uncomfortable hug. But I also know that it won’t last forever, and that the sun will keep on rising. I feel more aware of myself and what I need to make this upcoming season better. I will heed my own advice and start each day with a grateful and inspired heart. It is going to be a great day. Feel it, believe it and see it.
Let’s find the good in each day friends. Let’s shift into a restful and soulful place as we care for ourselves, our families, friends, and the Earth. Let’s find space to feel what we need to so that we can process these changes and shifts. This allows us to be mindful of where we are truly at and be present with ourselves. Let’s give extra grace to ourselves and the world as we enter the season of less light, literally, and try to bring light into our day and shine into others as we brighten our own world.
We can do this in the same way the sun rises each morning. With a rested, and fresh view on each day. You’ve got this.
As always, be gentle with yourself,
Katrina

P.S. I’m always here if you need someone to talk to. You’re not alone!
